Northampton is known for being the capital of shoemaking aka cobbling, home to “Dr Martens” a goths, punk and indie fans shoes and boots of choice, and many other brands of shoes gone by, it’s also the home to a Northamptonian 3 piece alternative band called “Thistle” and they’re headling a show at one of London’s finest and favourite venues – “The Moth Club”.
This is to celebrate their latest hot-off-the-press release – their 2nd EP on the “Rex.Recs” independent record label – and it’s called “Backflip”. The trio – “Cameron” on Lead Guitar+VOX, “Judwyn” on Bass + Vox, and “Lewis” on Drums – put together a mouth-watering supercharged alt/shoegaze show playing songs from both of their EP releases and some other songs besides, hammering out their guitar swirling fuzz drenched hard hitting songs and vibes to a full packed room of people letting loose and enjoying a great time. Their sound is unique with a wall of sound style and vocals that are as much delicate as they are thunderous screaming out the lyrics.
The band put on sale at the merch table freshly signed copies of their “Backflip” EP which flew off of the shelves, supported by “Rex.Recs” label mates “Ugly Ozo” and also “Camber” they got the crowd warmed up nicely
It was great to see long time fans of the band wearing their Thistle t-shirts with glee, it was an intoxicating brilliant time to see a crowd and band so enaged in unison in having a great time throughout the songs and setlist, there are going to be plenty more Thistle shows like this but not sure how long they will play venues this size or as cool, don’t miss them you’ll have a wonderful time, Cameron and Judwyn provide some chatter in between songs and have a confidence with their music which is wonderful to see.
The band have just announced a UK tour as headliners but also supporting various bands in the UK and Europe so theres no excuse not to check this brilliant band out.
